Die zerstörerische Kraft eines Tornados – im Vergleich bei Google Earth

Kürzlich wurde Greensburg, im amerikanischen Kansas von einem Tornado heimgesucht und fast komplett zerstört. Sicherlich haben viele von Euch die Bilder in der Tagesschau oder auf den einen oder anderen Webseiten gesehen.

Eine ganz andere Darstellung findet Ihr jetzt auf dem Lat Long Blog, welches das Team um Google Earth schreiben. Es zeigt eine “Vorher” und “Nachher” Aufnahme. Noch deutlicher kann man die Verwüstungen wohl kaum darstellen.

Greensburg vor dem Tornadao und danach

Mir ist noch nie so deutlich geworden, welche verheerende Kraft diese Tornados haben.

Für diejenigen, die sich mit Google Earth mehr auskennen, gibt es auf Ogle Earth noch weitere Tipps:

“Google has made available an overlay showing both before- and after satellite imagery of the town of Greensburg, Kansas, devastated by an F5 category tornado on May 4. You can find an animation of the radar imagery that night here.”
